About the Business Crime Initiative
Who are we?
Stoke on Trent Crime Initiative follows an intelligence-led approach to managing business crime and targeting the most persistent offenders across Stoke on Trent. We also provide crime reduction advice and guidance while aiming to reduce fear and the negative perception of crime in Stoke on Trent. As a business for business partnership with voluntary membership, our members take ownership of both the problem and the solution, promoting involvement and encouraging the reporting of incidents and the submission of intelligence.
What is Business Crime?
Business Crime is not just about those incidents that affect retail premises. Collectively, all issues have an adverse effect on the whole of the business community. If a customer has their car broken into while visiting the local shopping area, they will take their business elsewhere, damaging the trading environment in the long term. This is equally so when those using public transport are faced with anti-social behaviour when arriving at the bus station. Similarly, incidents of violence, anti-social behaviour or criminal damage that occur in the night time economy may have a negative impact on both the daytime and the nightlife business environments. In order to create a safer environment, it is therefore essential that we look at all of these areas.
Membership
If we are to tackle crime across the whole business environment, it is essential to have a broad mix of business members. Our members range from retail to leisure, from nightclubs to offices and from fast food outlets to the library, museum and university.
Furthermore, Stoke on Trent is not confined to the City Centre. It is a linear City made up of six towns. 2007 saw the start of a long term roll out across both the daytime and night time membership groups. Membership continues to thrive and we are continuing to see a growth in membership across the 6 towns and the areas in between.
Funding
Stoke on Trent Crime Initiative is a non profit making organisation and is managed by the members through a Board of Management; funding policy is set by the Members’ Board. For details of current fees please contact us directly.
